Refuge LGBT+ Home

Are you looking to rent a room or apartment in Rome or its province?
You might choose to rent to young people and LGBTQIA+ people, who often face challenges in the housing market. These challenges are linked to multiple factors, such as discrimination against queer people or the market's tendency to exclude young people or people without guarantors.
LGBTQIA+ youth are twice as likely as their CIS and heterosexual peers to face difficulties on their journeys towards independence, due to family abandonment following coming out and barriers in the workplace for those undertaking gender affirmation journeys.
According to FEANTSA data, homelessness among LGBTQIA+ youth is three times higher than among their straight, cisgender peers. For this reason, the LGBT+ Refuge Network has been running shelter and independence support projects since 2016, offering family homes and co-housing options.
Unfortunately, this isn't enough: when young people, often living away from home, find themselves faced with Rome's rental market, they're asked for guarantees that are difficult to obtain for those without family support or affected by the precariousness of employment contracts intended for younger people.

This is why your help can be decisive.
What we do:
– Gay Help Line is committed to social mediation and educational support for young LGBTQIA+ adults, following them on their journey to independence and remaining a point of reference through a team composed of educators, psychologists, counselors, and lawyers.

What you can do:
– Contact Gay Help Line if you are interested in learning more about this project and offering rentals (single or multiple rooms, apartments) at prices lower than market prices (at least 30% less, with a one-month security deposit).

This way, we can facilitate a match between young people we know and support through our services and tenants, building a relationship of trust and assessing the sustainability of rental costs. This opportunity could be essential for many LGBTQIA+ youth who would otherwise be negatively impacted by exclusionary and discriminatory social mechanisms.
